Your day begins at the beautiful Ty Newydd Country Hotel, where you’ll enjoy a complimentary hot drink before heading to our nearby farm. Once there, you’ll be welcomed with a short introduction to the world of falconry. This includes an overview of bird husbandry, weight management, diet, and telemetry — the cutting-edge technology we use to monitor our birds’ movements and wellbeing.
Next, we head out across 250 acres of spectacular countryside to fly our Harris Hawks. These intelligent birds are natural pack hunters, and you’ll become part of their hunting party. You’ll work alongside them to flush out prey, stimulating their natural instincts. Expect plenty of up-close interaction, handling, and photo opportunities as they fly to your glove. The walk can last up to 1 hour 30 minutes but is adaptable to suit all fitness levels. Good outdoor clothing is advised, as we may pass through woodland or wet terrain depending on where the birds choose to fly.
Then, something truly unique — Twizzle, our Gymnogene (African Harrier-Hawk). With only a handful of these rare birds in the UK, Twizzle is the only one actively demonstrating the incredible behaviour and character of this remarkable species. Alongside him is Rags, our iconic Bateleur eagle. Together, they offer a fascinating glimpse into the social dynamics of African raptors, often interacting just as they would in the wild. This is the most authentic African bird of prey experience in the UK.
To complete your experience, we’ll visit a stunning historic church nestled in breathtaking scenery to fly one of our majestic owl species. You’ll experience silent flight, glove handling, and learn about owl behaviour and the subtle signals they use when at ease in a suitable environment.
The experience concludes back at Ty Newydd Country Hotel, where you’ll enjoy a final complimentary tea or coffee. For those looking to extend their day, the world-renowned Penderyn Whisky Distillery is just a short distance away — a perfect way to toast an unforgettable encounter with nature.
